Dos Pueblos senior Joseph Pearlman placed 29th in the Division 3 boys race and the Cate girls team came in 11th in Division 5 at the CIF State Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno.
Pearlman ran the 5K course in 16:06.8, improving on his time from last year. The race winner was Colton Swinth of Santa Rosa-Maria Carrillo in 15:10.2.
The top 25 runners in the race finished under 16 minutes.
“Today was a fast race, and Joseph ran better than he did last year,” DP coach Nash Jimenez said. “He went out strong on the first mile and tried to keep it going on mile two, but just couldn’t hold it the last 800 meters.
“It was a great year for Joseph and for our DP cross country family,” Jimenez added. “I’m so proud of him, and can’t wait to see what he accomplishes the rest of his senior year.”
Campolindo edged Maria Carrillo for the Division 3 boys team title.
The Cate girls, a team made up of sophomores and freshmen, capped a stellar season by finishing in 11th place in Division 5.
The Rams were led by sophomore Anna DiSorbo in 23rd place in a time of 19:21.3. Sophomore Meena Baher was next in 80th in 20:53, sophomore Kennedy Simpson placed 86th (21:02.0), freshman Kendall Thorne was 105th (21:25.5) and freshman Lylie Bechtel came in 115th (21:34.2) to round out the team scoring.
San Francisco’s Lick Wilberding High of San Francisco won the team title.
In the Division 5 boys race, brothers Will and Ziggy Goddard of Midland School in Los Olivos finished 8th and 15th, respectively. Will Goodard ran 15:52 and Ziggy Goddard hit the finish line in 16:07.7.
It marked the first time in program history that a Midland team competed in the State Championships.
