A pair of juniors combined for 11 goals to lead the Dos Pueblos girls water polo team to a 14-9 victory over Huntington Beach on Friday at the So Cal Championships in Orange County.
Athena Wigo scored six goals and Ava Bennett tallied five to pace the Chargers’ offense.
Emma Gilbert, another junior, added two goals, and freshman goalie Megan Garner made six blocks, had three steals and an assist.
Dos Pueblos improved to 10-11 on the season.
Santa Barbara Goes 1-1
The Dons lost against Long Beach Wilson, 8-3, but bounced back to defeat Schurr, 9-6, on Friday at the So Cal Championships.
Nalani Yim played a terrific game against Schurr, making 16 saves. Layla Szymczak led the offense with five goals, while Sophie Johnson and Allison Bartholomew each had two goals. Johnson also had two assists and earned two exclusions, while Bartholomew had two steals.
Against Wilson, Addie Sweeney, Szymczak and Abby Webber scored for the Dons. Yim had 10 saves, and Olivia Obando “did an amazing job guarding their strong center,” said coach Mark Walsh.
The Dons play Yucaipa in a 9-12- semifinal game.
