Goalie Kate Gay had a huge game, making 13 blocks, including a pair of penalty shots, and Alex Zapata scored four goals to lead the Carpinteria girls water polo team to a 9-7 win over visiting Rowland in a second-round game of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs on Thursday.
Carpinteria went on a three-goal run to take an 8-5 lead in the third period and held on for the victory to advance to Saturday’s quarterfinals. The Warriors will travel to Mark Keppel.
“The team looked stronger than before today, so I hope we can maintain that momentum and push for the title,” said Carpinteria coach Sergio Castaneda.
He praised the play of freshman Ainslee Alexander, who scored two goals.
Carpinteria improves to 16-5.
