Thomas Couvillion led a balanced Laguna Blanca attack in a non-league boys volleyball sweep over Santa Ynez on Friday. The scores were 25-15, 25-17, 25-22.
Couvillion put away 11 kills, had four digs and three serve aces to pace the Owls. Ganden Walker had seven kills and Drew Levinson added five as the Owls were productive from the outside.
“Our pin hitters had a great night tonight putting the ball away on both the right and left sides,” said assitant coach Kat Niksto. “It was a fun competitive match, with both sides playing all out volleyball.”
SANTA YNEZ SOFTBALL BEATS SANTA BARBARA
Riley Vannasap pitched a complete game, struck out eight and had three hits for Santa Ynez in a Channel League softball game.
The Pirates banged out 17 hits. Giszelle Hrebor belted a three-run homer and a double and had five RBI. Cierra Cloud went 3-3 with a triple and double and drove in two runs Lily Martinez went 3-4 and Kylee Johnson and Sydney Gills each had two hits and two RBI.
SANTA YNEZ BEACH VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS
Santa Ynez swept beat Laguna Blanca 3-0 in a girls beach volleyball match at Laguna Blanca on Friday.
The Pirates’ No. 1 team of Jayda Henrey and Gianna Pecile won 22-20, 21-15. Kaki Allen and Sadie Lishman took the No. 2 match, 21-14, 21-12 and Hannah Allen and Cailin Glover won at No. 3, 21-5, 21-12.
Santa Ynez coach Melissa Rogers said the result was a good comeback after struggling in a loss against Santa Barbara on Thursday.
“After the loss, we discussed the importance of staying focused on ‘our’ game, taking care of the little things, making adjustments quickly and playing a more cerebral game,” she said. “The girls applied the above and took care of business with a strong finish to the week, defeating Laguna Blanca at all three positions in straight sets. I am proud of how the girls’ came together and rebounded for the win.”
SANTA YNEZ TENNIS WINS
Santa Ynez went 8-1 in doubles and defeated Villanova, 12-6, in a non-league boys tennis match.
The No. 1 doubles team of Luke Lockhart and Charlie Hoose swept their sets 6-1, 6-2, 6-0 and Ethan Guillemin and Jace Hurnblad also swept, 6-3, 6-1, 6-0
Jacob Merrill won two singles sets.
The Pirates are now 7-0.

KATE MAZZA WINS 1600 CENTRAL COAST SPRING CLASSIC
Kate Mazza took first place in the 1600 meters at the Arroyo Grande Central Coast Spring Classic track & field meet.
Mazza ran 5:34.55. She also took second in the 800 in a personal record of 2:27.89.
Zachary Liljenquist was fifth in the boys 800 in a PR of 2:02.51.
