Local college and graduate students, as well as seasoned employees, all have one thing in common – they aspire to find meaningful work in their chosen field. With the new year and decade continuing to display signs of a competitive job market, job-seekers need state-of-the-art online networking tools to seek, cultivate and maintain professional relationships.

For those wondering how to launch into a new job, field or role and improve their skill sets, LinkedIn, “the world’s largest professional network” is offering a free career workshop.

LinkedIn relationship manager Ryan Zervakos is teaming up with Pacifica Graduate Institute Alumni Association (PGIAA) to present ARE YOU READY?, a public career workshop, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at Pacifica Graduate Institute’s Barrett Center, 801 Ladera Lane, Santa Barbara.

The event includes lunch, nutrition breaks, and raffle prizes. Seating is limited; register at cominghometopacifica.com, Programs, Bonus Event: LinkedIn Workshop.

Resume-Scribes, a full-service, career coaching company specializing in resume writing and interview preparation, will also share insights and techniques for creating a winning resume.

Zervakos is a leader in providing cutting-edge advice to students emerging into the professional world, as well as those making a career change. He will support workshop attendees in exploring topics that include strategic planning, building your compass (Journey), writing an effective resume, highlighting your professional skill set, and maximizing online presence.

Zervakos will pay particular attention to demonstrating how the LinkedIn platform is a powerful tool for career advancement, network building, and job searching.

“These past few years with LinkedIn have given me an opportunity I never could have imagined,” said Zervakos. “Yes, working for LinkedIn is great, but the best part about my job is getting to work within the higher education system, meeting bright, hard-working students, and generous faculty and administrators.

“For those of you that know me, you know how passionate I am about LinkedIn and how our platform can level the playing field. With LinkedIn Learning, we are now positioned to change the game for anyone needing to upskill.”

According to Diane Travis-Teague, PGIAA director of alumni relations, the career workshop will be a great experience for anyone in the South Coast community who is (or will be) seeking employment. The event leads up to PGIAA’s annual Coming Home Alumni Weekend, Friday, Jan. 17 to Sunday, Jan. 19 on the PGIAA campus.

“We are pleased to partner with LinkedIn and showcase Mr. Zervakos’ expertise in order to give our students, alumni, and area residents the very best tools they need to work where they can thrive and create a sustainable life,” Travis-Teague said.
