Miles Evans, a Dos Pueblos High, SBCC and UCSB alum, finished an AVP career-best second place at the Hermosa Beach Open on Sunday.
Evans and 7-foot Ryan Doherty lost in a three-set final to Casey Patterson and Chase Budinger, 25-23, 19-21,15-7.
It was the first AVP final for Evans, who played beach volleyball at Santa Barbara East Beach. His previous-best AVP finish was a fifth at the Huntington Beach Open in 2016.
The 6-4 Evans, 29, played well in his first final, putting away most of his attacks against AVP veteran Patterson and Budinger, who started playing on the AVP Tour last year after a career in the NBA.
