A 67-year-old man has been identified as the person who died last week in a residential structure fire in Lompoc last week.

Gregory Alan Hughes died in the fire, according to the Raquel Zick, spokeswoman for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau.

At approximately 9 a.m. Jan. 6, personnel from the Lompoc Fire Department, along with Santa Barbara County and Vandenberg firefighters, were dispatched to the fire on the 1000 block of West Chestnut Avenue, Lompoc Battalion Chief Dena Paschke told Noozhawk.

Firefighters arriving at the scene reported smoking showing from the condominium complex.

A second person and a cat escaped the burning residence without injury, Paschke said.

The damage was limited to a center unit in the building at Winterhaven Village, Paschke said.

This week, investigators were continuing to investigate how the fire started, she added.
