At least one person was critically injured Thursday night in a rollover crash on Highway 154 in the Santa Ynez Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at about 6:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Highway 154 near Paradise Road, just west of the vista point, the CHP said.
A F-250 pickup truck was engulfed in flames when Santa Barbara County firefighters and other emergency personnel arrived on the scene, according to Capt. Scott Safechuck of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
A man suffered severe burns, Safechuck said, and was taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
A Calstar medical helicopter was dispatched to the hospital for possible transfer of the patient to a burn center, according to emergency radio traffic.
The flames from the pickup, which was destroyed, spread to the nearby vegetation, but were quickly knocked down by firefighters, who also extinguished the vehicle fire, Safechuck said.
A female motorist who stopped to help pulled the man from the burning vehicle, Safechuck said. She sustained burn and smoke-inhalation injures, and also was taken to the hospital.
Highway 154 was shut down in both directions after the crash.
