A 27-year-old Grover Beach man died in a single-vehicle rollover crash Friday night on Highway 101, the California Highway Patrol confirmed Tuesday afternoon.

At 7 p.m., Santa Maria Fire Department and American Medical Response personnel, along with CHP officers, were dispatched to southbound Highway 101 north of Broadway.

For an unknown reason, the 2011 Kia sedan left the roadway and struck the guardrail, continuing south into an area with dirt and grass west of the highway.

The vehicle overturned several times before coming to rest on its roof.

The driver, who was wearing his seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance personnel, the CHP said.

His name was not released pending notification of relatives.

The crash remained under investigation, the CHP said.

Alcohol and drugs were not suspected to be factors in the crash, the CHP added.

Witnesses told CHP dispatchers that the driver had been traveling at high speed prior to the crash, according to CHP emergency dispatch reports.
