A man was shot and killed in Santa Barbara’s Bohnett Park on the Westside early Friday morning, and police said they are investigating the incident as a homicide.

Officers responded to the park at 1200 San Pascual St. at 1:31 a.m. and found one man with a gunshot wound and another uninjured victim, the Police Department said in a press release.

Officers and paramedics provided medical aid to the victim, who was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

The man died of his injuries after arriving at the hospital, police said.

The suspect or suspects are outstanding and may have fled the scene in a vehicle, according to the Police Department

“Based on the investigation thus far, this appears to be an isolated incident, and there does not appear to be any ongoing threat or danger to the public,” the statement said.

Police said it was “too early in the investigation to determine if the incident was gang related.”

Detectives and crime scene investigators remained at the scene Friday morning, with police tape around the area.

The name of the victim was not released pending notification of next of kin.

No additional information was available.

Police also are actively investigating a stabbing that occurred at Santa Barbara City College Tuesday afternoon. Three men were reportedly involved in an altercation and one was stabbed and transported to the hospital.

The victim was in stable condition when officers left the hospital, Commander Chris Payne said.

Officers searched the campus for several hours but did not locate the two suspects.

SBCC canceled evening classes and had campus security officers available to escort students off campus.
