Masato Perera of San Marcos High will be playing for the Men’s Open Singles championship at the 120th Ojai Tennis Tournament.
The Harvard-bound Perera, the reigning CIF-SS singles champion, outlasted second seed Warren Wood, of Del Mar, in a 10-point tiebreaker after they split two tight sets in the semifinals on Saturday at the Ojai Valley Inn. The scores were 7-5, 4-6 and 10-6 in the tiebreaker.
The third-seeded Perera will face No. 1 Alex Kuperstein for the championship on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Libbey Park. Kuperstein defeated 11th seed Quang Duong of Manhattan Beach, 6-3, 6-4, in the semifinals.
Kuperstein, 23, is a pro player from Palm Desert. He played on a Community College State Championship team at College of the Desert in 2019. He was the doubles champion and the singles runner-up.
