Megan Musick scored the game-winning goal in the final seconds to give San Marcos a 9-8 quarterfinal girls water polo win over Santa Margarita at the Southern California Championships in Irvine on Friday.
The Royals (18-5) were in control of the game, leading 5-2 at halftime and 7-4 at the end of three periods. But Santa Margarita roared back and tied the score at 8-8 with 21 seconds left in regulation.
Hannah Meyer led San Marcos with three goals and Claire Kronen, Ella Prentice, Ava Stryker and Cassidy Miller all had one goal.
Goalie Zosia Amberger played a strong game, making nine blocks and two steals.
Santa Barbara 16, Laguna Beach B 10
Abigail Hendrix had six goals and Juju Martinez do Amaral had five goals to lead the Santa Barbara girls water polo team in a consolation game at the So Cal Championships.
Elise Power and Oli Obando had 2 goals apiece.
