SBCC opened its home season in style on Friday afternoon as Mekaylla White and Monica Pizano tallied two goals apiece in a 4-0 shutout of the Cal Lutheran JV team.

Olivia Berntsson, a freshman defender from Sweden, collected three assists.

The Vaqueros (1-2) found the net four times after scoring just once in their first two games. They extended their home win streak to 24 in a row.

White headed in a left-footed cross from Berntsson at 3:40 for her first college goal and a quick 1-0 lead. She scored again in the 16th minute, taking a pass from Berntsson in the middle of the field, making a quick turn and driving a 25-yard shot into the upper right corner.

“We worked as a team and we worked really well,” said White, a freshman forward from Folsom. “Our first two games were tough. We just came back and played well on our home field.”

SBCC outshot the Regals 26-9, including 14-3 in shots on goal.

“It was good to have a home game and we learned from it,” said coach John Sisterson. “I know they learned from the two losses that you have to put the ball in the back of the net and keep a clean sheet. Today was positive all around.

Pizano, a freshman from Santa Ynez, scored in the 28th minute on a cross from the left by Berntsson. Pizano re-entered the game in the 63rd minute and made it 4-0 in the 76th minute, taking a through ball from Quinn Simpson and beating the goalie, who had come out to challenge her.

Savannah Ayers played the first 45 minutes in goal and made two saves. Elizabeth Estrada played the second half between the pipes and faced six shots, making one save.

“Fourteen shots on goal, that’s great to see,” said Sisterson. “We’ve been working on getting more shots on target. I told them before the game that I felt we deserved better than starting the year with two losses. They’re better than that and this will give us confidence going forward.”

The Vaqueros are playing three in a row at home in 12 days. They’ll host Clovis next Friday at 7 p.m. and then take on Chaffey on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m.
