Mike McLean

Mike McLean was born Jan. 10, 1945 in the Baden Section of St. Louis, Missouri. He attended O’Fallon Technical High School and was the president of his class.

From a very early age Mike discovered his love for the auto industry. After graduation he started working for a body shop in St. Louis and on vehicles in his own garage.

Mike moved to Goleta in 1971 and established his first body shop McLean’s Auto Body on Fairview Avenue. Mike owned and worked at his shop for over 50 years, a true journeyman.

Mike was an avid pilot and skydiver. He loved flying and owning his own aircraft, including fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. Mike also loved skydiving and jumping out of aircraft; he had more than 200 jumps.

Mike also loved animals. There was always a dog or cat that hung out at the shop, and he made sure they were spoiled. He also loved all the humming birds that flew around the office and shop.

Mike is survived by his daughter Sally and her husband Mikael; son Adam and his wife Tracey; granddaughter LuLu; grandson Lincoln; three brothers, Jim of Laguna Beach, California, Patrick of St. Louis, and Ken of Montrose. His wife Sue passed away in 2017.
