One person sustained minor injuries early Monday in a residential fire in Santa Maria.

The blaze was reported at about 6:30 a.m. on the 200 block of West Street, according to Battalion Chief Tony Clayburg of the Santa Maria Fire Department.

The fire, believed to be accidental, broke out near a shed that was being used as a shop behind a home, Clayburg told Noozhawk, and the flames extended slightly into the structure.

Residents were home at the time, and had mostly doused the fire by the time crews arrived.

One resident was taken by AMR ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment of possible smoke inhalation, Clayburg said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
