A shooting that critically injured a 17-year-old boy Monday night was under investigation by the Lompoc Police Department.
Shortly after 9 p.m., Lompoc police officers, firefighters and other first responders were dispatched to the alley behind the 400 block of North N and O streets for a report of a shooting, according to Sgt. Scott Morgan.
They found the teen, who had suffered a single gunshot wound, and he was taken by an American Medical Response ambulance to the Lompoc Airport to meet a CalStar medical helicopter for transport to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
The victim was reported in critical but stable condition on Tuesday, Morgan said.
Lompoc police were investigating the shooting, which they believe was gang-related, and alerted other law enforcement officers to be on the lookout for a raised white truck as the possible suspect’s vehicle.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the Police Department at 805.736.2341
