One person was killed and three others received minor injuries after a vehicle crash Thursday evening on the east side of the Santa Maria Valley.
At approximately 6:15 p.m., personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol responded to the 4900 block of Foxen Canyon Road in Sisquoc, according to fire Capt. Daniel Bertucelli.
A motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of a head-on collision with a sedan, Bertucelli said.
Three people from the car received minor injuries but declined medical treatment, he added.
The crash caused the motorcycle to catch fire, which spread to nearby brush, burning a small spot before crews extinguished the blaze, Bertucelli said.
The CHP identified the motorcyclist as a 43-year-old Santa Maria man, but his name was not released, pending notification of family members.
A CHP incident report said the motorcyclist “was unable to maintain his lane” in a curve, and crossed into the path of the vehicle, which was unable to avoid a collision.
Law enforcement officers will investigate the cause of the crash.
