Multiple vehicles were damaged Monday in a series of hit-and-run collisions on northbound Highway 101, stretching from Carpinteria to Montecito, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Some injuries were reported in the incident that began at about 8 a.m. and involved a white pickup truck, according to CHP dispatch.
Witnesses and law enforcement tracked the pickup, which was located on the right-hand shoulder near Olive Mill Road.
Some construction workers on Jameson Lane detained the suspect, according to emergency radio traffic.
As many as 10 vehicles may have been struck, in what was described in radio traffic as deliberate collisions, the CHP said.
There appeared to have been some minor to moderate injuries, but that could not immediately be confirmed.
Radio traffic indicated at least one person was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Several of the vehicles were left undriveable by the collisions, and several tow trucks were dispatched to clear the wreckage.
Santa Barbara County sheriff’s deputies responded to the incident along with the CHP and AMR ambulances.
