Music Academy of the West will present Music Academy Concert Hall Online, a digital showcase of performances, interviews and events that will be offered during the Music Academy Remote Learning Institute (MARLI), running Sunday, June 14 through Saturday, July 25. The Music Academy of the West’s annual Summer School and Festival has transitioned to MARLI for 2020.

There will be 134 full-scholarship fellows participating in the curriculum of private lessons, studio classes and seminars, plus a two-week Creative Extension. Some 45 experts and industry leaders will join MARLI as guest artists and speakers in Innovation/Career-Building Seminars. The fellows come from 23 countries and 22 states representing 42 universities and music conservatories.

Videos of performances, events and interviews — offered at 5 p.m. weekdays, Monday, June 15-Friday, July 24 — will be posted on the Music Academy Concert Hall Online, musicacademy.org. Signature events include:

Virtual Picnic Concerts featuring Music Academy faculty, fellows and alumni; a performance of Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man;” An Evening With the Vocal Institute; excerpts from Haydn’s “London” Symphony conducted by Christian Reif; music from Engelbert Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel” featuring the Sing! Program and Vocal Institute fellows; and a performance by members of the London Symphony Orchestra.

Fellows receive private lessons and studio classes for the first four weeks of MARLI from Music Academy faculty artists, and will engage in Innovation/Career-Building seminars from leaders in such fields as classical music and technology.

During the Creative Extension session, fellows may enter the Fast Pitch Awards (new project ideas), the new MARLI Digital Challenge (video projects), and Keston MAX auditions with the London Symphony Orchestra.

“In addition to world-class training offered by our distinguished faculty, the 2020 fellows will be exposed to a dynamic roster of influencers through virtual interactive seminars,” said Scott Reed, Music Academy president/CEO. “Mentorship and exposure to these visionaries will inspire new thinking and unlock creative potential.”
