Nick Oakley and the UCSB baseball team continued their hot hitting at Cal Poly on Saturday in an 8-3 victory for the Gauchos’ 11th straight Big West win.
Oakley, who hit a two-run double in the 11th inning of a 10-7 victory on Friday night, smacked two more doubles and drove in three runs on Saturday as the Gauchos sealed their first series win at Baggett Field in 12 years.
Oakley, a former Santa Barbara High star, went 3 for 5 and started at second base.
Jason Willow, Blake Klassen and Kyle Johnson each had two hits, including doubles, giving the Gauchos five doubles in the game.
Gianni Bloom homered for the second straight game.
UCSB outhit Cal Poly 13-7.
The Gauchos improve to 29-10 overall and 18-2 in the Big West. Cal Poly is 24-18, 11-6.
Starter Mike Gutierrez went 6.1 innings and picked up his sixth win (6-1). He allowed single runs in the first inning, five hits and walked one.
Elliott Gallegos, Hayden Hattenbah and Matt Ager pitched in relief. Ager went the final 1.2 innings to pick up his fourth save,
Down 3-0 after three innings, the Gauchos scored two runs with two out in the fourth. Nick Vogt tripled and Jason Willow doubled him home. Oakley followed with a single to right-cente field to score Willow to make a 3-2 game.
UCSB took the lead with three runs in the sixth. With two on and one out Jordan Sprinkle sent a double off the left-center wall to give the Gauchos a 4-3 lead. Bryce Willits made it a 5-3 game with a single up the middle to score Sprinkle.
Bloom homered in the eighth to make it 6-3 and Oakley hit two-run double in the ninth off his former Santa Barbara High teammate Derek True.
UCSB goes for the series sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m.
