Jay Campbell, the director of Santa Barbara Nite Moves, isn’t sure the popular summer fitness series on Wednesdays at Leadbetter Beach will get the approval to start up next month.

The series, which features ocean swims, a 5k run and a post-event party, was postponed back in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Campbell was hoping he could get the OK to start Nite Moves in July, but the surge in coronavirus cases in the county prevented that from happening.

“Nite Moves is cancelled through the remainder of July,” he said. “I believe it will be so for August, just have not received a definitive answer yet.”

Campbell also directs the Pier to Peak Half Marathon on the Sunday before Labor Day in September. He said the event is still “on at this moment, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s cancelled.”

Campbell noted the 13.1-mile run from Stearns Wharf to La Cumbre Peak could be rescheduled.

“I’ll will move it to October, November or December, if need be,” he said.
