One person was wounded in a shooting inside a business Tuesday morning in Santa Maria.

At approximately 7 a.m., personnel from the Santa Maria Fire Department, Police Department and American Medical Response were dispatched to the incident at a Shell gas station at the corner of North Broadway and West Donovan Road.

Officers found an adult male inside the business who had been shot, police said.

The victim was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center and underwent surgery. Their name and details on their condition were not available.

Santa Maria police detectives were investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Two hours after the shooting, yellow crime scene tape surrounded the gas station and a door on the north side of the business had shattered glass.

“We’re going to follow up with video evidence that’s readily available in the area,” said Lt. Russ Mengel from the Detectives Bureau.

Detectives asked that anyone with information about the shooting call 805.928.3781, ext. 2164.

Additional information was not immediately available.

This is the city’s 23rd shooting  investigated by police this year as Santa Maria, like other communities, faces a spate of gun violence. Most of the shooting incidents did not lead to wounded victims.
