One person was killed and two others were critically injured Friday night in a multiple-vehicle crash on Highway 135 near Orcutt.

At about 9 p.m., personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, California Highway Patrol and American Medical Response were dispatched to a three-vehicle crash at Highway 135 (Orcutt Expressway) and Union Valley Parkway, according to fire Capt. Daniel Bertucelli.

Heavy extrication was required to free the victims from the wreckage, Bertucelli said.

One person died in the collision, and two others received major injuries.

The two injured patients were taken by AMR ground ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center.

CHP officers were investigating the circumstances that led to the crash, including a report of a wrong-way driver in the area.

Road closures were put into place for a time Friday night while crews removed the wreckage and investigated the incident.
