One person was killed Monday afternoon in a crash on Highway 166 in the Cuyama Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the Sheriff’s Office and the CHP were dispatched to a report of a vehicle off the highway west of Wasioja Road.
The vehicle landed on its roof some 60 feet off the highway, Fire Department spokesman Mike Eliason told Noozhawk.
The lone occupant in the eastbound vehicle was declared dead at the scene, Eliason added.
CHP officers were investigating whether the incident involved a second vehicle that fled the scene, according to emergency dispatch reports.
