A woman was arrested Wednesday night and the second suspect remained outstanding after attempting to burglarize an outdoor supplies area at the Santa Barbara Police Department.

The incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. at the department’s headquarters on East Figueroa Street, said Anthony Wagner, a police spokesman.

A police sergeant was leaving work “when he interrupted a burglary in progress of two individuals attempting to break into an outside area of the police department dedicated to supplies,” Wagner said.

Shauna Paddelford, 50, was arrested at the scene and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of burglary, looting during a state of emergency, and resisting an officer.

The outstanding suspect — described as a white man with shaggy light hair and dark clothing — fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction, Wagner said.

Several officers responded to the area, but did not locate the man, Wagner said.

“The investigation remains ongoing,” Wagner said.
