Thursday was truly one of the dog days of summer for a little pooch named Sugar in Orcutt.

The fluffy canine was getting a bath in the kitchen sink at the home where he lives when his paw became stuck in the drain strainer, according to Mike Eliason, a Santa Barbara County Fire Department spokesman.

Sugar’s owner summoned help, and firefighters from Fire Station 22 in Orcutt came to the rescue.

“They took about 10 minutes to take apart the drain and free the dog,” Eliason told Noozhawk. “Then they put it all back together, and made sure it wasn’t leaking.”

Sugar came through the ordeal without injury, and apparently smelling like a rose. Or maybe a wet dog.
