A paraglider was seriously injured Thursday in a crash in the mountains above Santa Barbara, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched shortly before 11:30 a.m. to the crash scene off East Camino Cielo, fire Capt. Scott Safechuck said.

The female paraglider was unable to gain altitude, Safechuck said, and slammed into the ground, suffering moderate injuries.

The 37-year-old woman was hoisted from the ground by the county’s Copter 4 and flown to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Her name and details on her condition were not available.

The sheriff’s Search & Rescue team assisted with the incident.
