A person suffered critical injuries Thursday night after falling 25-30 feet from a cliff onto a rocky culvert in the Painted Cave Road area above Santa Barbara, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
At about 11 p.m., county firefighters responded to reports of a fall victim along the area of the 2700 block of Painted Cave Road, Capt. Daniel Bertucelli said.
County Fire personnel and the Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue team responded to the scene.
“After a lengthy search, the victim was located,” Bertucelli said.
Rescue crews used a high-angle rope system to extricate the victim from the area, Bertucelli said.
“The victim was assessed while down in the culvert, and determined to be critical in nature,” he said.
The person was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital by ambulance, he said.
The victim’s name and condition were not available Friday morning.
No further details were available.
