Another event that’s been part of Santa Barbara’s Old Spanish Days for some time is the “Fiesta Basketball Tournament,” run by local high school basketball coach Phil Sherman at the Goleta Boys & Girls Club.

The five-on-five full-court tournament took place for 25th year last weekend, and the team of Trey Putnam, Devontae Millinghaus, Kael Rillie, Paco Espiritu and Sherman took first place.
They defeated a team comprised of Adam Sjovold, Charlie Asleron, Dakota McIntyre, David Dorado and Jeff Lee.
The participants are former high school and college players.
“I have enjoyed holding this event over the last 25 years,” said Sherman, who retired after coaching boys and girls basketball at Dos Pueblos High and now coaches boys basketball at Laguna Blanca. “I am lucky to have relationships with these very fine members of our community.
“One year, there was a fire in town that burned a family’s home. The tournament participants and officials donated hundreds of dollars to help the affected family.”
