One person received serious injuries Sunday night during a stabbing in Santa Maria, and was airlifted to a Santa Barbara hospital.

At approximately 9 p.m., personnel from the Santa Maria police and fire departments responded to the scene near the intersection of North Broadway and Alvin Avenue.

The victim, who suffered serious injuries, was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital via CalStar medical helicopter.

The victim’s name and condition were not available late Sunday night.

The stabbing occurred after the victim and two other people began arguing in a parking lots, police Sgt. Jeff Lopez said.

The suspects, who allegedly were not known to the victim, fled the scene, Lopez said. 

Additional details about this incident were not available as officers continued their investigation.
