The host Dos Pueblos boys overcame an early deficit to post a convincing 10-3 win over Santa Barbara Thursday.
Chargers captain Gus Miller led the scoring with 5 assists to go along with one goal, “creating plays all over the field,” coach Lucas Martinez said.
Jack Finneran and Dan Finneran had three goals apiece for Dos Pueblos, Roman Christou two goals and Cairo Rios one.
Rios and Cal Denier both went 6-for-8 in face offs to give the Chargers a 12-4 edge at the X.
“The defense was solid all night, led by Salem Bawaneh in goal and seniors dash Roshell and Brody Fredrickson at close defense,” Martinez said.
Dos Pueblos is now 2-1 in league play and 6-2 overall. Santa Barbara is 0-3 and 4-6.
Girls: Cate 15, Thacher 10
The Cate girls jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first four minutes and never surrendered the lead in a 15-10 Channel League win over Thacher in Ojai Thursday.
The opening goals from the midfield were scored by Ellie Tunnell, Riley Pan and Phebe Hancock.
Rams coach Renee Mack credited “smart play, strong work ethic and relentless effort” for the win.
Tunnell led the offense with five goals, and “as impressive was her command of the field and team play,” Mack said. “Seniors, Ellie, Phebe, and Gigi were outstanding on the field, continually making smart decisions and never forcing passes. “
Pan had four goals, and Hancock finished with three. GIgi Gyer, Lauren Hubbs and Sophia Ospina scored a goal apiece.
Goalkeeper Liz Sutter had seven saves for Cate.
“Senior goalie Liz Sutter led the back with great communication and quick saves,” Mack said. “A highlight was a goalie midfield clear to Gigi and then a quick transition goal.
“On the defensive end, Devon Lack and Riley Pan stepped up and led the team on slides, double teams and crashes. Overall, I was proud of the whole team. The girls look like a new team this week!”
Cate is now 3-1 in league play. The Rams play at Dos Pueblos, 2-0 in league play, on Tuesday.
