Tessa Johansen hit two home runs, driving in four runs, to lead Bishop Diego to an 11-7 win over Carpinteria Friday.
The game was tied at 7 in the bottom of the sixth, when the Cardinals’ Lauren Weeks singled on a 1-1 count, driving in a run, to start the late decisive scoring.
Johansen went 3-for-4 to lead Bishop at the plate, with homers in the third and fourth innings.
Carpinteria took the lead early, with a home run by Amarisse Camargo in the first inning, driving in two runs.
Right-hander Madeline Ferries went the distance for Bishop Diego, allowing seven hits and seven runs while striking out six and walking zero.
Ashlee Mora started the game for Carpinteria, allowing six hits and four runs over two innings. Renata Martínez threw four innings in relief.
The Cardinals racked up 16 hits in the game. Weeks, Chelsea Hayes, Johansen, Lily Simolon, Anna Fittipaldi, and Ferries all managed multiple hits. Johansen, Hayes, and Weeks each collected three hits to lead Bishop Diego.
Carpinteria saw the ball well, racking up seven hits. Martinez and Jessie Marquez all collected multiple hits for Carpinteria. Martinez led Carpinteria with three hits in four at bats.
Laguna Blanca Girls Track at Frontier Meet
Laguna Blanca girls competed well at the Frontier League meet Friday at Villanova Prep.
“With only two weeks of practice, they came ready to race and gave 100% effort in every race they ran,” Owls coach Abigail Stadtlander said.

Kira Rameson won the 1600 meter with a time of 6:16.
“As a freshman, I was really impressed with her effort and time,” her coach said.
Tallulah Steager and Elyse Weaver placed first and second in the 400 meter.
“This was their first time at a track meet, and they ran great,” Stadtlander said. Tallulah, Elyse, and Kira also ran the 800 meter as well, running second, third and fourth.
“Eloise Lowther ran the 100 and 200 meter and ran great as well. She gave it 100%, which is all that I asked for.
“I am so proud of these ladies who showed up and gave it their all today,” Stadtlander said. “They are putting in the effort and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has in store.”

The Santa Barbara girls beach volleyball team swept a non-league match at Laguna Blanca 5-0 on Friday.

“It was a beautiful day at Laguna Blanca’s campus and a fun Friday afternoon of volleyball,” Dons coach Kristin Hempy said. “It was nice for all our pairs to get a W today and see some success in the things we’ve been working on in practice.”
Santa Barbara kicks off Channel League play against San Marcos Wednesday at West Beach, starting at 3 p.m.
Providence 4, St. Bonaventure 1
The Patriots showed their grit, coming from behind in two matches to take the win Friday against a strong St. Bonaventure team.
The veteran Providence No. 1 pair of Jane Krautmann and Avala Elwood started the match off with a two-set victory, 21-16, 21-14. At No. 2, Olivia Leflang and Tessa Knoles secured a three-set victory in a close game, 21-17, 16-21, 15-8.
With the Patriots trailing in the other 3 matches. Coach Chris Elwood gave each pair a pep talk after the first set, and the players rallied, with the No. 3 and No. 4 pairs winning their next two sets to secure the team victory.
“I was really impressed with our team today, winning clutch third games and playing without one of our key players (senior and captain Jacky Pryko due to illness),” coach Elwood said. “This was a total team effort and will help us get ready for next week.”
