The Carpinteria boys soccer team fought hard and never gave up, but came away with a 4-0 loss to Hueneme in a Citrus Coast League match at home Friday.

The Warriors started with some good touches and scoring opportunities while pressure defense, but the Vikings managed break through and scored on a free kick in the 13th minute. Carpinteria couldn’t get the equalizer and was down 2-0 at the half.

“In the first half, the boys were working hard but we gave up the ball a lot on some miscues,” Warrior coach Gerardo Rodriguez said. “Other than that, I felt like our defense stayed strong.”

Hueneme added second-half goals in the 58th and 71st minutes, the last on a free kick.

“I was glad to see the boys slowly start to play one-two touch soccer and never giving up on any play,” Rodriguez said.

The Warriors, now 2-6 in league play and 4-7 overall, face Hueneme again next week on the for a rescheduled CCL game.

Girls: Hueneme 4, Carpinteria 0

The Carpinteria girls found few attacking opportunities against host Hueneme Friday in a 4-0 Citrus Coast League loss.

The Vikings scored in the 15th, 29th and 36th minutes to take a 3-0 halftime lead, the last of those as a result of a rebound on a penalty kick initially blocked by Warrior goalkeeper Natalie Gonzales.

“After a halftime chat, the Warriors would pick the tempo with a spark off the bench from sophomore Averi Alexander,” Carpinteria coach Freddy Martinez said. “And the tireless efforts from center-back Lela Roberts would keep the opponent at bay for most of the second half, but a final score would come in the 70th minute of play to finish the game off.

“Hueneme was a talented team with some great passing and physical play, but none of our players would disagree with me when I say we did not play to our potential tonight. But that is how soccer is sometimes and all we can do is put this match behind us and get ready for the next game.”

The Warriors are now 6-7-1 overall and 4-4 in the CCL. They get a rematch with the Vikings Monday for a rescheduled game.

Boys: Righetti 2, Santa Ynez 1

The Santa Ynez boys traveled to Santa Maria to take on the Righetti in a battle of Ocean League co-leaders, with the Pirates taking a 2-1 hard-fought loss.

“The game was equally matched for most of the match,” Santa Ynez coach Hector Garcia said.

Righetti scored first on a poor clear from the Pirates’ back line, and added another goal soon after on a free kick.

Aiden Tapia got Santa Ynez within a goal when he ran through the middle and was fouled in the box.

The Pirates are now 4-2 in league play, while Righetti improves to 5-1.
