The Dos Pueblos girls couldn’t hold a 1-0 first-half lead and lost 2-1 to Channel League champs Ventura on Senior Night at home.
The Chargers scored on a Riley Monroe header from a corner kick by Trish Lo in the first half. But Ventura responded with two second-half goals.
“We started our 11 seniors, and they played most of the game,” Dos Pueblos coach Marco Medina said. “It was an emotional night and the seniors played their hearts out against Channel League champs Ventura.
“I want to wish the best to all our seniors in the next chapter of their lives and want to express my gratitude for the opportunity to be the head coach this season.”
The Chargers end their season with a 4-6-4 record in league play and 6-8-4 overall.
Carpinteria 1, Malibu (2OT)
The Warriors won a Senior Night matchup with Citrus Coast League rival Malibu on a 1-0 shutout on a header by senior team captain Ariana Lounsbury in the second overtime.
Carpinteria had possession about 70 percent of the game, but the scrappy Malibu defense held through the 80 minutes of regulation and first overtime.
“On a senior night, it is just so fitting that a senior (Lounsbury) was the hero, and the fact that it was a defender who normally doesn’t get on the other side of the goals is just wonderful,” Carpinteria coach Freddy Martinez said. “She is a great kid and a super leader, so everyone was joyful to see her grab the spotlight.”
The Warriors, 5-7 in league play and 7-10-1 overall, finish the season Thursday in a rain-makeup game against Santa Paula.
Boys: Santa Ynez 1, Templeton 1
The Pirates opened the scoring with a header by Gabriel Beleski in the seventh minute. Templeton scored the equalizer seven minutes before halftime.
In the second half, a penalty shot by Templeton hit the crossbar to preserve the tie.
“Tristan Amezcua was able to keep the defensive side of the Pirates on track to start the attack from the back,” Santa Ynez coach Hector Garcia said.
