Carpinteria sophomore Justin Main swam the 500 free in 5:43.18, cutting 17 seconds off his CIF consideration time in the Warriors’ 91-74 win over Foothill Tech in a non-league swimming dual meet on Friday.
Main also dropped six seconds off his CIF consideration time in the 100 butterfly (1:05.31) and helped the 4×100 relay team achieve a CIF automatic qualifying time of 3:36.00. Augusus Sheaffer, Jackson Melton and Matthew Lamberti were the other members of the team.
The Carpinteria girls lost 99-55, but sophomore Taylor Classen swam PRs in the 100 fly and 100 backstroke. The 100 fly time of 1:11.07 was a CIF consideration mark and her backstroke time of 1:11.62 put her closer to an automatic time.
The Carpinteria boys are 4-0 on the season and the girls 3-1.
Cate Girls Swimming Tops La Reina
Nicole Teh won the 50 and 100 freestyle events, swam on a winning 200 free relay and was part of a season-best time in the 200 medley relay for Cate in a 70-67 win over La Reina.
The other members of the free relay were Nili Silverman, Stella Meister and Myla Van Lynde.
Ophelia Ke, Kendall Rhee and Athena Ke joined Teh on the medley relay.
Rhee was a double winner in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.
Cate’s boys swam in non-scoring events and set school records in the 200 medley relay (1:44.95) and 100 backstroke (Cyrus Symington, 56.48). The relay team consisted of Ted Pham, Symington, Jet Ochoa and Charlie Schofield.
Providence Girls Tennis Beats Laguna Blanca
The Providence girls tennis team clinched a CIF playoff berth with a 10-8 victory over Laguna Blanca on Friday.
Senior Ava Vandever won two sets at No. 1 singles and Avala took a pair of wins at No. 3 singles for the Patriots.
Providence honored seniors Chloe Olsen, Vandever and Christine Venzor. They started playing on the school’s inaugural team as freshmen.
Laguna Blanca’s Phoebe Stein and Nicole Khodabandehlou pulled out a tiebreaking win (7-4) in doubles and the No. 1 team of Katherine Ball and Grace Trautwein swept their three sets.
Providence will host the Tri-Valley individual tournament next week.
Carpinteria Basketball Falls to Hueneme
Kainoa Glasgow recorded a double-double for the Warriors in a 57-52 loss to visiting Hueneme in a Citrus Coast League game.
Glasgow had 20 points and 12 rebounds and added three blocked shots.
Matt Garcia and Jose Suarez each scored 14 points and combined for 11 rebounds.
Eli Sepulveda scored 24 points for Hueneme.

At one point in the game, the Chargers were down four players but didn’t allow a goal.

Cate Boys Tennis Beats Laguna Blanca
The Rams pulled out a 10-8 victory over the Owls.
Jengus Ercil and Jinming Wang won their third-round singles sets to complete 3-0 sweeps. The doubles team of Bryce Kim/Ethan Bloom closed out the match by winning a sudden-death point on an big serve by Bloom.
