Santa Barbara County Public Health officials reported 126 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, making for a total of 447 cases still considered to be infectious countywide.

There were no additional COVID-19-related fatalities reported on Wednesday, and the county’s cumulative death toll remained at 501.

The number of patients receiving hospital treatment for the novel coronavirus increased to 51 on Wednesday, and 13 of those patients were being treated in intensive-care units.

Of the new cases reported Wednesday, 62 were from the Santa Maria Valley. With the addition of Wednesday’s new cases, Santa Maria reached 14,000 cumulative cases since the pandemic began.

There were 24 cases reported in the Lompoc Valley, 19 in Santa Barbara and nine in the Goleta Valley. The Santa Ynez Valley reported four additional cases, Isla Vista added three and the unincorporated areas of South County logged one. There were four cases pending geographic location.

There were 39 new cases reported among individuals between ages 30 and 49, 30 new cases among people between ages 18 and 29, and 26 new cases among residents younger than age 17. The 50-69 age group accounted for 25 of Wednesday’s new cases, and residents older than 70 made up six.

There have been 42,211 COVID-19 cases confirmed countywide since the pandemic began.
