Football star Qu’Ran Gossett showed some basketball magic in Bishop Diego’s 59-45 win over Carpinteria on the second day of the Nordhoff Invitational.
While hustling for a loose ball in the third quarter, Gossett threw it behind his back and the ball went through the basket for a three-pointer.
Bishop coach James Coronado said one of the referees asked if he’d ever seen that before in his coaching career. Coronado told the official, “‘Yes, Qu’Ran did something similiar during the CIF championship game last season.’ I guess for an encore, this time he decided to do it behind his back.”
Lui Fernandez led the Cardinals (2-1) with 18 points and Gossett added 11.
“It was a great response to a set back last night (against Rio Mesa),” said Coronado. “This is a great defensive group and we are starting to feel each other out on offense. I like the direction we are headed. We just have to keep working.”
Kainoa Glasgow led Carpinteria with 22 points.
Carpinteria falls to 1-5 overall.
