A rainy and windy forecast has prompted the cancellation of the Goleta Holiday Parade set for Saturday night.
“The Goleta Lions Club is an ‘all-volunteer’ service club that has been serving the Goleta Valley for over 8o years. We have spent hundreds of volunteer hours preparing for the 2022 Goleta Holiday Parade,” according to a statement on the parade website.
“We all are super happy that we will be finally getting some rain!!! BUT we are sad to have to change our plans. Because of the approaching rainstorm, the Goleta Holiday Parade is cancelled for 2022.”
The procession, initially set for Dec. 3 and then rescheduled to Dec. 10, has twice been canceled.
The parade was set to begin at 6 p.m. and travel on Hollister Avenue between Orange and Kinman avenues.
“We will miss seeing your faces tonight and wish you a happy holiday season,” according to a tweet by the city of Goleta officials.
Organizers vowed the parade would return next year with entries set to roll Dec. 2, 2023.
Regarding parade entry fees, the Lions Club has offered to keep donations to reserve an entry’s spot in the 2023 parade. Refunds will be provided via checks sent by mail, if requested by sending an email to edholdren45@outlook.com.
Afternoon parades in Old Town Orcutt and Carpinteria plus an evening parade in Santa Barbara were expected to continue as planned Saturday, rain or shine.
Late Saturday afternoon, the Guadalupe Christmas Parade also was canceled due to rainy weather, the Guadalupe Police Department said in a social media post about the event organized by the Guadalupe Kiwanis Club.
