Christian Kirtley drove in Kyle Johnson with a single to break a 4-4 tie in the sixth innung and John Newman Jr. followed with a  RBI double, helping the UCSB baseball team beat Oregon, 7-5, on Sunday to split a four-game series with the Ducks in Eugene.

Relievers Michael Rice and Ryan Harvey came up big to preserve the victory.

In the bottom of the seventh, Oregon scored a run and had two runners on with no outs. Rice came in to replace Michael Splaine Rice retired all three batters he faced to get out of the inning.

Kirtley hit a homer over the left-center field wall in the eighth inning to put the Gauchos ahead by two, 7-5.

In the bottom of the eighth,  Oregon managed to load the bases with two outs but Harvey came out of the bullpen to replace Sam Whiting and got Drew Cowley to fly out to left field and strand the runners aboard.

Harvey retired the Ducks in order in the bottom of the ninth two earn the save.

UCSB returns to Caesar Uyesaka Tuesday night to host LMU.
