A motorist escaped serious injury Saturday evening in a rollover crash on Highway 101 along the Gaviota Coast, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The crash occurred shortly after 6 p.m. in the northbound lanes near Arroyo Hondo and the Tajiguas Landfill, fire Capt. Daniel Bertucelli said.

The vehicle came to rest on the right shoulder, Bertucelli said, adding that the driver was able to get out of the vehicle.

The vehicle caught fire, and the flames spread to the nearby vegetation.

When crews arrived on the scene, they quickly extinguished the fire and treated the driver, who sustained only minor injuries.

The cause of the crash was under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
