Joe Pasternack buried seven three-pointers for 21 points, but San Marcos couldn’t hold off a taller Camarillo squad and dropped a 70-61 decision at the Bob Hawking Tip-Off Classic in Simi Valley on Wednesday.

Pasternack is the son of UCSB men’s basketball coach Joe Pasternack.

San Marcos led 56-55 midway through the fourth period, but Camarillo used its size advantage to grab offensive rebounds and pulled away for the win.

San Marcos coach James Kinzler praised the play of Diego Reyes and Andre McCullough in the “very physical game.”

“Diego gave us great energy and defensive intensity, while Andre provided a big spark off the bench,” said Kinzler.

The Royals (1-3) take on Bakersfield Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
