Joey and Charlie Friedman swept their two matches at the CIF-SS Northern Sectional Tournament.

Brothers Joey and Charlie Friedman of San Marcos tennis continued their winning ways in doubles at the CIF-SS Northern Sectional Individual Tournament at Carpinteria High on Thursday.

The Friedmans won matches against a team from Burbank (6-1, 6-2) and Brentwood (6-0, 6-2) to remain undefeated on the season and advance to the Round of 32 in Claremont next Tuesday.

Carpinteria’s two entrants were eliminated.

The doubles team of Troy Zimmerman/Connor Gralewski ran into a strong Division 3 Crossroads tandem in the first round and lost in straight sets.

Max Stone competed in singles at Cate School and enjoyed a 6-0  6-0 win in the first round against the Golden League’s No. 2 representative from Quartz Hill.

“It was a good warm-up for him as he was nursing an arm injury,” said coach Charles Bryant.

In the second round, Stone faced Drew Koval from Oak Park and lost 6-1, 6-0.

“Max played well and the games were tight but again, the experience of the highly ranked tournament player proved to be too much,” said Bryant.
