San Marcos couldn’t hold a four-run lead as Ventura capitalized on five walks in the sixth inning and rallied for a 12-7 win over the Royals in a Channel League softball game.

Down 3-1, with one out in the second inning, Charlotte Hastings singled and Tiana Monaghan crushed a 1-1 pitch over the left centerfield fence for her 3rd home run of the season to tie the score.

The Royals got a run-scoring fielder’s choice from Jessica Vega, RBI singles from Kayla Aguilar and Gigi Gritt and a double by Caitlin Early for a RBI to break the tie and go up 7-3 in the fourth.

Ventura added a run in the fifth and then eight runs in the sixth on five walks and five hits.

San Marcos right fielder Emma Foster had a strong defensive game. She threw out a runner tagging from third base to complete a double play in the fourth inning and collected her ninth right field-to-first base putout of the season.

San Marcos falls to 4-6 in league and 9-12-1 overall. The Royals are home Tuesday against Santa Barbara.
