John Connolly and Tony Nijia led a balanced attack with 11 points apiece in a 55-46 boys basketball win over host Simi Valley that puts the Royals into the semifinals of the Simi Tip-Off Classic.
The Royals play Westlake for a spot in the finals on Friday at 7 p.m.
San Marcos coach Jelani Hicks said his team gave a good effort overall at both ends of the floor.
“We opened the game with a 15-point lead in the first quarter,” said Hicks. “Simi was able to bring it within 10 in the third, but key plays on the defensive and offensive end down the stretch sealed the win for us.”
