The San Marcos pair of Lily Blankenhorn and Kate Edgar used solid ball control and precise shots to defeat their Venura High opponents, helping the Royals win the non-league girls beach volleyball match, 5-0, on a wild-weather Tuesday at the San Marcos courts.

The match was delayed as rain/hail storm swept through the area at around 4 p.m.

Once the skies cleared, “the Royals came out of gates firing on all cylinders,” said coach Cassidy Drury-Pullen, a San Marcos alum who played collegiately at Cal.

She praised Blankenhorn/Edgar for “handling a very scrappy Ventura with ease.

“They had some really long rallies, utilizing their great ball control, and scored points with precise shots around the perimeter. A very fun team to watch,” said Drury-Pullen.

The Royals host Bishop Diego on Thursday at 4 p.m.
