San Marcos gave up a late goal at Lompoc and the teams finished in a 1-1 draw in a Channel League boys soccer match on Thursday.
The Royals scored on a nice combination play after a long throw from Connor Hess. Matt Hislop flicked the ball to AJ Ranii and he headed it on goal before Leo Olivo put it away.
San Marcos coach Paul McLean said Lompoc played to its strength of being physical.
“We didn’t respond with the appropriate energy or. urgency,” he said. “It was a tie that felt like a loss to us and clearly a win to them.”
The Royals (8-3-4, 0-0-1) play host to Santa Barbara on Saturday at 5 p.m.
