San Marcos responded after its loss against Dos Pueblos by winning at Cabrillo, 2-1, on Saturday in a Channel League boys soccer match.

Luke Sheffey and Juan Escobar scored for the Royals, who are now 3-1-0 in league and 11-3-2 overall.

“We had a great response today after a disappointing game on Thursday,” said San Marcos coach Paul McLean, referring to the 2-1 loss to Dos Pueblos. “It was encouraging to see our boys fight for every ball and put a strong Cabrillo team under pressure.”

Sheffey took a pass from Escobar and juked the goalkeeper for an easy finish. A few minutes later, Sheffey played a ball to Tully Knoles, who snuck a through pass to Escobar for the finish.

“Cabrillo’s mid field was an excellent test for us to match up against and we rose to the challenge,” said McLean. “Sergio Diaz, Aldo Contreras, Luke Sheffey and Jesus Perez played really well today.

“Ronin Suzuki led us defensively and started our offense from the back. Juan Escobar did a great job combining and holding the ball up front for us.”
