The San Marcos boys soccer team returned to Channel League play with a bang, routing visiting Santa Ynez 5-0 on Tuesday at Warkentin Stadium.
The Royals erupted for three goals in the first half.
Isaac Diaz headed im a cross from Tully Knoles for the first goal. Justin Hess and Sergio Diaz finished corner kicks to make it 3-0.
In the second half, Juan Escobar played a ball into to Jack Clark and he finished with a shot into the side netting. Leo Vico scored the fifth goal off an assist from Diaz.
“It was fun to see some new players on the score sheet and lots of players getting time on the fieldm” said coach Paul McLean. “We created some pretty goals and defended as a group, and yet still have lots of areas to improve and plenty more games to do just that.”
He praised the play of Magaliel Madrigal in the middle of the field and Ronnie Rosales on the wing.
Royals (10-2-0, 2-0-0) host Dos Pueblos on Thursday at 4:45 p.m.
SANTA YNEZ GIRLS 2, SAN MARCOS 0
The Pirates got goals from Neta Ofiaeli and Amelia Villa and won the Channel League game at home, blanking the No. 4-ranked team in CIF-SS Division 3.
Santa Ynez goalkeeper Brookelyn Fletcher made four saves and Charlotte Lewis assisted on one of the goals.
San Marcos, which was playing its first game in two weeks, is 1-1 in league and 4-2-1 overall. Santa Ynez is 2-0 and 6-10-3.
The Royals play Dos Pueblos on Thursday at home at 6:30 p.m.
