The San Marcos girls rolled to a 3-0 halftime lead and held on for a 3-1 Channel League win at Lompoc Thursday.

The Royals got on the board in the eighth minute, when Julia Gularte beat her defender to get a pass to Evony Diaz, who tapped the ball in the goal.

Soon after, Eden Lazarus got the ball on a counterattack and ran 50 yards, finishing with a shot to put San Marcos up 2-0.

The third goal came in the 30th minute, when Gularte scored on a pass from sophomore Leilani Venegas.

“Lompoc is a young team that has the ability to put in hard work and steal points,” San Marcos coach Brian Ziegenhagen said.

San Marcos improves to 4-1-1 in league play, good for second place behind Santa Barbara. The Royals are 6-5-5 overall. Lompoc is 2-4-1 and 5-8-4.

The two teams play again Saturday, at San Marcos.
