San Marcos scored two second-half goals to beat Dos Pueblos 2-0 in a Channel League match at home Thursday.
Leilani Venegas scored with a tap-in goal in the 60th minute on a corner kick from Becca Rodriguez. Seven minutes later, Kaci Shapansky made a great effort off a loose ball inside DP’s box.
“The girls played a complete game throughout the whole 80 minutes,” Royals coach Brian Ziegenhagen said. “We did a tremendous job with being dangerous in the attack, but also winning the ball back quickly on defense.”
San Marcos rebounded from Tuesday’s loss to Santa Ynez to improve to 2-1 in league play. The Royals face Cabrillo on Saturday.
Dos Pueblos falls to 0-2-1 in Channel League play.
“Elena Andrews had a heck of a game for us, coming up with big-time saves time after time in the game,” Dos Pueblos assistant coach Alexander Zermeno said. “We had some good chances early in the first half, but luck was just not in our favor.”
